December Is Here
“In drear nighted December, Too happy, happy tree, Thy branches ne'er remember their green felicity— The north cannot undo them, with a sleety whistle through them Nor frozen thawings glue them from budding at the prime. In drear-nighted December, Too happy, happy brook, Thy bubblings ne'er remember Apollo's summer look; But with a sweet forgetting, They stay their crystal fretting, Never, never petting About the frozen time. Ah! would 'twere so with many A gentle girl and boy— But were there ever any Writh'd not of passed joy? The feel of not to feel it, When there is none to heal it Nor numbed sense to steel it, Was never said in rhyme.” John Keats
It was about a year ago that we were enjoying the summers high season in New Zealand. If you are missing Apollos summer look, like I have been this week with lows in the 20’s and highs not climbing much above the low 40’s. I can offer you a brief respite this coming Tuesday, December 5th. I will be sharing a travelogue of photo’s and stories from that trip featuring the amazing gardens, plants and people we saw and met. This is hosted by the Salem Hardy Plant Society and I will have a few flats of New Zealand plants and some other specialties for sale as well. The presentation starts at 7:00 in the Dye House at the Mission Mill. Click here for details: Gardens and Alpine Plants of New Zealand
In business news, shipping is wrapped up for the season. With the busy times of the holidays upon us and old man winter knocking at the door we will take a few months to get restocked. I may put up a flash sale of winter bulbs, stuff like some of the rare Tigridia we grow and such, that are best shipped dormant/dry in the winter. I also have this years harvest of natural, 100% pesticide and chemical free Oregon grown Saffron that is getting packaged up that will be available for your winter culinary escapades. And since it is almost Christmas get the plant lover in your life a gift certificate so they can get an early start on next years garden season!
