Where the wild things are part XI

“There should be a place where only the things you want to happen, happen”

Maurice Sendak….

What a specimen of Phlox speciosa, deep in the Siskiyou Mountains.

Thanks to an invite from the Eureka chapter of the American Rhododendron Society, I was able to get a quick trip South in before the madness of the shipping season began. I took some time to wander through the Siskiyou Mountains and up into the Kalmiopsis High Country on my way down and was not disapointed. It’s an area I have been exploring for about 25 years now and every trip brings new excitement and discoveries, check out the gallery to see some of the April wildflower show:

I hope you enjoyed that little foray into Southern Oregon’s botanically rich mountains, that’s only a snippet of the great plants that I got pictures of. If you want to see more you’ll have to book my talk on Wildflower Adventures Around Oregon. A couple of announcements to be made here:

  • I’ll be restocking and refreshing the online availability over the next week or so, I have a lot of great plants that are just coming on now so stay tuned for that.

  • I will be at the Bellevue Botanical Garden, speaking to the NARGS chapter Thursday May 9th in the evening, if you are in the Seattle area, I will have plants for sale that aren’t on the shipping availablity, details here: Northwestern Chapter NARGS

  • Save the Date! May 18th will the be the Illahe Open Garden and Plant sale, more details on that coming soon, we have something special planned and the best availability and prices will be had at our home sale so make sure you plan to attend.

Off to pack plant orders, but not before this public service announcement brought to you by my autonomous thoughts:

Watching the current state of affairs in the world, it deeply saddens me to see the vitriol and violence committed on so many fronts on the daily now. Imagine being assaulted or worse dying for some other human being’s belief in a “benevolent and kind God”, the hypocrisy being dealt out in the name of religion world wide right now is so unfathomable it should shock anyone. Yet it’s accepted as matter of course. The student protests asking for an end to the slaughter of innocents, get met with armed goons marching for a police state, and heads of the future leaders and peacmakers are bashed in by batons held high behind shields and riot helmets. If you can stomach any of this in the name of religion than it’s my firm belief that you have been duped into believing fairy tales. Believe what you want, but if there was any such thing as a kind and benevolent god, he would have come back decades ago to stop the slaughter that happens in his name every day on this planet. Kind of makes you wonder what religion, country, state, people group, ethnicity might actually have God on it’s side?
