Bornmuellera tymphae
Native to the mountainous regions of Greece, particularly found in the Pindus Mountains and the Tymphe range in Epirus. This species typically grows in rocky, alpine habitats, often in well-drained, calcareous soils at higher elevations. It thrives in the cool, mountainous climate of its native region and contributes to the unique flora of the alpine and subalpine ecosystems in Greece. The subshrub like habit with silver foliage and white flowers make it a dynamite specimen to showcase in the rock garden. A standout moon garden plant if there ever was, it's super drought tolerant.
Named in honor of the German botanist Karl Friedrich von Bornmüller. The genus Bornmuellera was established to commemorate his contributions to botany and plant taxonomy, his name is associated with much of the flora of the balkans. The specific epithet "tympae" refers to the Tymphe mountain range in Greece, which is the native habitat of the species. This naming reflects both the botanical homage to a notable figure in the field and the geographic origin of the plant
