Dianthus erinaceous
sand pink or hairy pink, is native to the mountainous regions of southeastern Europe. Specifically, it is found in countries such as Albania, Greece, Italy, and parts of the Balkans. This species typically grows in rocky, well-drained soils, often in alpine meadows, grassy slopes, and scree areas. It thrives in sunny locations and is adapted to the cooler, moist conditions of its native habitat, where it produces attractive pink flowers with a distinctive fringed appearance.
Low growing, Dianthus species with a long bloom time, from late spring through summer. The flowers are borne on short stems, making this a great species for the crevice garden or rock garden. The slowly spreading mats of silver/blue/green foliage will creep through crevices and rocks.
Small size, perfect for establishing in a crevice garden.
