Fritillaria pudica 'Richard Britten'
Probably among the rarest of Fritillaria cultivars, especially when you consider it’s of a Northwest Native species, I haven’t run across too many places selling this one, so if you are lucky enough to get one of my very few in stock, go by a lottery ticket because it’s your lucky day!
A British made selection featuring much larger flowers than the species. Even AI couldn’t find much on the history of this selection, I’m guessing it must be a triploid. I got my stock from Jane McGary who is a bulb growing legend and I have managed to keep this one going, it’s not the easiest one. Even some British folks reached out and said it seems to be exceedingly rare in cultivation. It does rice grain offset but is very slow to mature bulbs and doesn’t increase as fast as the species, hence the price. I can only offer this wonderful selection every so often and it’s never available in large quantities so I have to limit it to one per customer.
