Oxalis bifurcata
Awesome South African fall blooming Oxalis with large soft pink flowers. In a pot they increase very fast and put on great show with the shamrock like leaves in tidy clumps.
Oxalis bifurcata is a species of flowering plant within the Oxalidaceae family. This species is native to South Africa, particularly in regions characterized by a Mediterranean climate, which includes the Western and Eastern Cape provinces.
The habitat of Oxalis bifurcata is varied but often includes open, sunny areas such as grasslands, rocky outcrops, and sometimes wooded areas where it receives ample sunlight. The plant is adapted to well-drained, sandy, or loamy soils that are typical of its native environment. During the winter months, which coincide with the rainy season in its native range, the plant thrives, producing its delicate flowers and foliage.
Oxalis bifurcata is a bulbous perennial, with small, clover-like leaves that are typical of the genus. The leaves are divided into several leaflets, giving the plant a delicate, fern-like appearance. The flowers are usually white or pale pink, adding a splash of color to the landscape. This species' adaptability to its native conditions makes it a resilient and charming addition to gardens that simulate similar conditions to its natural habitat.
Would make a great rock garden specimen for the zone 8-9 folks i’m sure, but I grow it in a pot where it brings me joy as fall fades to winter.
