Sternbergia vernalis (fischeriana)
Syn. Sternbergia fischeriana, The Yellow Amaryllis as it is commonly called is rare in the horticultural trade. The large yellow flowers in the Autumn are a special treat. Give it a warm, dry summer rest is key to flowering. These will increase over time, but not fast. A collectors treat for sure, first time I have been able to offer this one.
Native to the eastern Mediterranean region, Sternbergia fischeriana is found in countries such as Turkey, Iran, and the Caucasus. It thrives in a variety of habitats, including rocky slopes, open woodlands, and scrublands. The plant is adapted to a Mediterranean climate, which is characterized by wet winters and hot, dry summers. This allows Sternbergia fischeriana to survive in well-drained, sunny locations, where it can make the most of the winter rains and avoid excessive moisture in the summer.
